MILAN – On the occasion of Expo 2015 and the Festival of Water, Sforza Castle in Milan will host the fifth edition of the Water Design event. This is an event organised to address themes related to the correct use and adequate availability of water. The exhibition, conceived by Mosca Partners, will be hosted in Milan from 2 to 11 October, for the final sprint of the universal exhibition on food. This is an extraordinary showcase, where installations and projects dedicated to water are presented, created by the best designers and architects on the international scene and presenting an itinerary around the showrooms of major companies in the sector. In this way, contact is promoted between the world of design and an increasingly broader public, consisting of professionals, operators and enthusiasts.
Water and sustainability
The Cortile della Rocchetta will be dedicated to the theme of living spaces and daily life in relation to water. The exhibition seeks to prompt the public to reflect on water consumption, demonstrated in alternative ways of thinking, planning and constructing, while possibly reducing waste to a considerable extent. Ferruccio Laviani, Piero Lissoni and Patricia Urquiola put forward three concepts of contemporary dwellings, integrating a central garden, where a system of regeneration is installed, enabling the recovery of water going down the drain; purifying it and as a result, reducing waste by up to 70%.
Water and wellbeing
The Corte Ducale will be dedicated to the theme of water as a source of wellbeing for the mind and the body. The unique architecture of the place, with its large central pool, spontaneously refers to a state of mental and physical relaxation and enjoyment, in contact with water and nature. The need to plan spaces where this pleasure and harmony can be found and enjoyed has been with us since ancient times, but has once more become highly relevant today, given the hectic pace of life in the contemporary world.
The installations at Sforza Castle will act as a stimulus and introduction to the itinerary in the city between the showrooms of sector companies , where it will be possible to discover and actually touch the products, objects, innovations and research linked to the theme of water, for the entire duration of Water Design event. Moreover, evenings will be full, thanks to a programme of events and gatherings, shows and screenings in all the venues involved. In the showrooms in the districts of Brera and Durini/Monforte in particular, the activity will be coordinated in such a way so as to avoid the overlapping of events.
